Katy knew exactly what I was going through as a PhD candidate, and had the perfect combination of wisdom, empathy, and practicality to help me build up a consistent writing routine for my dissertation. Thanks to Katy, I’m a more consistent, methodical, and confident writer, and my whole life just feels more organized.

Happy Clients

Katy's holistic approach to work as part of one's life as opposed to consuming one's life grounded me when I wanted most to shut down due to the stress of looming filing deadlines. While recognizing my limits, she nudged me forward incrementally until I finally finished a draft. In our consultations, we discussed not just my writing goals and deadlines but worked on integrating rest, family, and self-care as equal priorities. Katy's wonderful daily work summaries helped me reflect on what I did, track my work patterns, and recalibrate my goals in both the short and the long term. Katy has a tremendous dedication to her clients and values their successes as part of her own, whatever they may be.

While Katy is a powerful writer on her own terms, she is also an excellent midwife for the work of others. She excels at identifying what kind of feedback a writer needs and reading with those parameters in mind. This may seem straightforward, but in practice it's actually quite hard to do; some readers are better for earlier phases of a project, while others are geniuses of copy-editing. Rather than providing good feedback at any one phase of project development, Katy can a work on its own terms during any part of the writing process. She provides thoughtful feedback and thinks deeply about what the author is trying to accomplish, and how she can facilitate their very best work.

I enlisted Katy’s services when I was designing one of my first syllabi as a college instructor. After reviewing my materials, she described what she found to be their strengths then addressed the particular obstacles I’d requested help with. She explained and directed me to resources on big-picture course design concepts, while also recounting specific examples from her own teaching experience to show me what the theories looked like in practice. Katy has the confident expertise of someone who has spent years studying and practicing this kind of work, combined with the flexibility and desire to hear your ideas and goals and pivot her coaching accordingly; after our meeting, my approach felt significantly improved but still entirely mine and in-line with my goals for the course.

Before working with Katy I felt like my research project was stuck in a swamp, but her timely nudges in the right direction helped me get back on solid ground. Katy’s coaching gave me the accountability, encouragement, and structure I needed to succeed.

Katy is a generous and incisive reader, with that rare ability to pinpoint and draw out your strongest ideas, especially when it all seems opaque to you. Her compassion, sense of humor, and practical advice have made the stresses (and occasional absurdities) of grad school feel more manageable at every step. In part, this is because Katy is a keen observer of other people's thought processes: she listens carefully to how you're approaching a question or problem, so that when she offers a suggestion, it often feels like a blurry picture snapping into focus. The way forward suddenly looks clear.

In the early stages of the doctoral process, I found Dr. Katy during a very rough point for me, both personally and professionally. I was in the proposal stage of writing my dissertation, and my progress had stalled for several reasons. I found Dr. Katy’s support and suggestions to be a breath of fresh air, and her positivity and continuous encouragement breathed life back into my progress. Not only did she have stellar ideas around writing, how to get it done, and how to manage the process, the personal support I regularly received from her made all the difference in my mental state. I would highly recommend her support and services to anyone who needs this kind of boost to get their writing project done.
