Friday Fun - Planner Peace

I have tried approximately 1,453 ways to organize my tasks, schedule, goals, and reminders. I've tried apps on my phone, making my own task templates in Evernote, having a running list on my desk, a few different planners, and have recently been experimenting with Bullet Journalling. But, I realized this morning that I have been consistently using my planner and bullet journal combination for four months now, which is an all time world record. This indicates, according to the blogs and feeds I follow, that I have achieved some level of "planner peace", or balance between all the systems. So for today's Friday Fun, I'll take you through my system of keeping things organized, because nothing is more fun than looking in someone else's journal! 

The Routine

I get up and (usually) do my morning routine, which varies but consists of some combination of meditation, stretching/yoga, and journalling. Sometimes I write long-form journal entries but mostly I update my bullet journal and fill out my planner during this time. This whole process takes me anywhere from half an hour to 90 minutes, depending on how much I feel like doodling, if I have somewhere to be, if I start checking my email, or if I go for a run or do a long workout of some kind. 

The Planner

I have been using the 2017 Desire Map planner since January and I really enjoy it. It is part of a bigger system that Danielle LaPorte created called Desire Mapping, where essentially you decide what feelings/emotions you'd like to have more of during the year (your "core desired feelings") and then consciously work towards activities and goals that support those emotions. If it sounds a little woo-woo, it might be, but I value the way it shifts my focus away from quantifiable goals and towards feeling good about what I'm doing now if it is in line with how I want to feel.  I fill out these pages every day with the help of my Google Cal, which keeps all my master appointments. I just copy the day's events onto that page, and work around that.

Daily pages have space for my schedule, my top 3 tasks, a list of lesser to-dos, and a variety of journal prompts. The corner (where it says "selfless") is actually a tear-off dog ear, which lets me flip to the current day easily, and gives me a word to focus on - or a piece of paper for the cats to bat around.

The Bullet Journal

I've previously posted about my bullet journal and how I came to use it here but thought it could be fun to show you how it looks while all in progress. So welcome to my Harry Potter themed July spreads! 

 


And that's how I do it! After working digitally for years, I will say that the archive aspect of working on paper is really something that I appreciate. I already enjoy looking back at previous months to see how much has changed, and I can't imagine what it will be like to look back after a year, or five.
